SUSE appoints Aptira as first APJ solution provider

By

Germany-based open source company SUSE Linux has appointed its first solutions partner for the Asia-Pacific and Japan, nominating cloud, managed services and infrastructure consultancy Aptira to fill the role.

The company has just a handful of storage solutions partners around the globe. The solution partner program is its highest partner tier.

Mark Salter, vice-president of Channels for SUSE, said that Aptira embodied what SUSE was looking for in a solution partner.

“Aptira has superior technical knowhow and we are impressed with its commitment to providing customers with the best solution possible with no vendor lock-in, which is a philosophy that SUSE as the open, open-source company, also subscribes to,” Salter said.

SUSE has been characterising itself an open open-source company since November 2016, when its chief executive Nils Brauckmann used the term to indicate that its software offerings will work with those from any other company that adheres to standards.

The obvious inference is that offerings from Red Hat, the world's biggest open source company, tend to be those where a customer has to use every bit of its technology. Else, things will not work as expected.

“The APJ region presents many opportunities for SUSE in open source adoption and working with Aptira will enable us to make greater in-roads to growing the business in the various countries in this region.

"We have many synergies with Aptira and this includes both SUSE and Aptira belonging to the board for the OpenStack Foundation and being active members.”

Tristan Goode, founder, chief executive and board director of Aptira, said: “We like to partner with like-minded companies. In SUSE, we have a mutually complementary portfolio, and a joint desire to concentrate on offerings that are commercially better for customers.

“Becoming SUSE’s first Solution Partner in APJ for storage shows that we do much more than just OpenStack. We also offer a full range of technical services from consulting, solution delivery, systems integration through to managed services and support.”
