Otterbox: damn good protection for your Pixel and Pixel XL

By

Google’s two new Pixel smartphones aren’t impervious to the damage caused by accidental drops, which means a protective case is needed. Naturally, Otterbox hopes you’ll consider its protection.

Smartphone protection company Otterbox has announced pre-ordering is open for its new Pixel and Pixel XL protective cases in the Defender and Commuter Series.

Promising "Otterbox Certified Drop+ protection", these cases are not waterproof, they are for protection against drops and shock only.

The company states that each of its case designs "undergoes more than 238 hours of testing across at least 24 different tests to keep these Google phones in top condition".

Rob Kovacs, vice-president of Business Development APAC at OtterBox, said: “Innovation is a key driver behind Google’s development of the Pixel 5.0 and Pixel XL 5.5.

“Keeping your device in perfect condition is simple – our Defender Series and Commuter Series cases offer trusted protection.”

So, what makes the Defender Series stand out?

Otterbox points to the Defender Series having three layers of protection, with both 5 and 5.5-inch cases boasting "built-in screen protectors to block out scuffs from the display, while the tough interior shell and outer slipcover absorb shock and block out dirt and grime".

What makes the Commuter Series different?

The Commuter Series "delivers sleek on-the-go protection", with slim cases for 5 and 5.5-inch models slipping "easily in and out of pockets, helping guard against drops with hard exterior shells and shock-absorbing slipcovers".

Pricing:

  • Defender Series, $74.95 for Pixel 5.0-inch and $89.95 for Pixel XL 5.5-inch
  • Commuter Series, $59.95 for Pixel 5.0-inch and $74.95 for Pixel XL 5.5-inch
  • Available to pre-order now at the Otterbox website
