Navman stays with SUNA

Navman navigation devices will continue to use SUNA traffic information for at least another two years.

Navman has been obtaining real-time traffic data from SUNA since 2007, and the relationship will continue following a two-year extension of the partnership.

SUNA collects traffic data from a variety of sources including traffic cameras, road sensors, probe vehicles (including taxis). Relatively static information such as road repairs and special events is also fed into the system.

Congestion information is then transmitted via FM radio and the internet, and used by navigation systems including in-car units to more accurately predict journey times and in some cases to suggest alternative routes.

Intelematics CEO Adam Game said "Navman has been a SUNA customer since we become the first traffic service to launch in Australia, and the extension of the contract for an additional two years will ensure the companies enjoy a decade-long working relationship." Intelematics is the company that runs the SUNA service.

As a result of the latest expansion, SUNA is available in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Hobart, Darwin, Newcastle, Central Coast, Wollongong, Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Sunshine Coast and Ipswich. 97% of the metropolitan population are now covered.
