LifeProof FRE for Samsung GS8/+

LifeProof has released its curved edge, waterproof, dirtproof, snowproof, and droproof cases for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.

While previous Galaxy models have had curved edges the tighter radius, infinity screen edges, and far smaller bezels all around presented design challenges – how to protect yet expose the edges.

Both cases have earned the “Designed for Samsung” logo that indicates that they have been designed specifically for Samsung mobile devices and have been certified to meet Samsung performance standards.

Bonnie Soon, LifeProof general manager for APAC, said, “With LifeProof, you can take your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ beyond limits and bring back the proof.

"LifeProof cases let you take pictures, use apps and share stories when you’re in the thick of the action. FRĒ’s streamlined style fits perfectly to Samsung’s curved-edge design, meaning you’ll forget it’s there.”

LifeProof FRE S8 front

LifeProof has four-proof — waterproof, dirtproof, snowproof, and droproof — protection for smartphone and tablet devices and provides freedom from environmental constraints. Consequently, it is the No. 1-selling waterproof case in the US.

The S8/S8 Plus case adds 35.8/41.7g and extends Samsung’s IP68 rating to two metres underwater for an hour and a two-metre drop resistance to Mil. Std. 810G-516.6. It has achieved this by building around the screen edge.

FRĒ for Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ is available now from and select stores. Pricing is $99.95 for Galaxy S8 and $129.95 for Galaxy S8+. Colours include Twilight’s Edge Purple, Second Wind Grey, and Asphalt Black.

Now’s the Time for 400G Migration

The optical fibre community is anxiously awaiting the benefits that 400G capacity per wavelength will bring to existing and future fibre optic networks.

Nearly every business wants to leverage the latest in digital offerings to remain competitive in their respective markets and to provide support for fast and ever-increasing demands for data capacity. 400G is the answer.

Initial challenges are associated with supporting such project and upgrades to fulfil the promise of higher-capacity transport.

The foundation of optical networking infrastructure includes coherent optical transceivers and digital signal processing (DSP), mux/demux, ROADM, and optical amplifiers, all of which must be able to support 400G capacity.

With today’s proprietary power-hungry and high cost transceivers and DSP, how is migration to 400G networks going to be a viable option?

PacketLight's next-generation standardised solutions may be the answer. Click below to read the full article.
