LAUNCH VIDEOS: Samsung Galaxy Note7 launches, in stores from 19 August

By

Samsung’s Note7 smartphone has launched and comes to market in just under three weeks and likely four to six weeks ahead of the iPhone 7’s launch.

iTWire colleague Ray Shaw has a write-up on the new Samsung Galaxy Note7 which I will link to when his is published, but here’s the basic information plus launch videos, with more to come from me in the future.

Headline features are a 5.7-inch Quad HD Gorilla Glass 5 display, IPS68 water and dust resistance for the Note7’s body and for the S-Pen and S-Pen usage, letting you write on a wet screen, 64GB storage as standard with max 256GB microSD explanation capability, although why this wasn’t a slot that could take up to 2TB microSD cards wasn’t explained.

IP68: means dust and water resistance based on IP68 rating, which tests submersion up to 5 feet for up to 30 minutes.

It doesn’t have Android N 7.0 Nougat yet, although presumably an upgrade is coming, but it does have 4GB RAM and pretty much the best of most everything else.

One presenter mocked Apple by noting that the Note7 did have an "audio port" alongside its USB-C connector which was "lightning fast".

Here’s the launch video which shows off the phone, and accessories like the 360 cam, Iris scanning, HDR video playback, Gear VR headset, Gear Fit devices, intelligent. wireless headphones and more.

Then below is the launch video in full. Note: Start watching from the 44:30 mark, before that it’s just the same image with music to distract you until the video really starts.

You can find out more information here.

Samsung Electronics Australia says it confirms "that the Galaxy Note7 will be available in Australia on August 19th from Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Virgin Mobile, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Samsung Retail and Samsung.com.au".

There will also be a pre-sale offer, "where customers who pre-order the Galaxy Note7 between August 5th and August 18th will receive a bonus Samsung 256GB MicroSD card valued at $299".
