Kaspersky helps protect TAG Heuer Link blingphone

If you spent $6700 on a mobile phone, you might expect it to find its own way home if you lose it.The TAG Heuer Link smartphone isn't that smart, but it does come with software from Kaspersky to protect the data it contains and to provide GPS tracking of its location.

OK, let's take it as read that some people will be prepared to pay $6700 for an Android-based smartphone. After all, the TAG Heuer Link is made from materials such as surgical-grade stainless steel, gold and diamonds. Just because you think it's crass, that doesn't mean someone in the deep-pockets set won't think it's the business.

And you need deep pockets - it's not that the phone is bulky, just that recommended prices range from €5600 ($7330, so it sounds like this is one situation where Australians can buy a tech product relatively cheaply) to "price on request" (which is normally code for "if you have to ask, you can't afford it") for the version studded with 1007 diamonds.

In common with other smartphones such as the iPhone, the Link includes a service to track the location of the handset in the event that it is lost or stolen, along with remote wiping.

These and other features are provided by software supplied by Kaspersky. "TAG Heuer Mobile Security (Powered by Kaspersky) allows users to locate a lost or stolen smartphone using the GPS Find function, store all digital assets in encrypted folders, and remotely block or wipe the smartphone if it is lost or stolen," said Andrew Mamonitis, managing director ANZ at Kaspersky Lab.

Chairman and CEO Eugene Kaspersky added "TAG Heuer Mobile Security is our first project in the luxury segment, and we are looking forward to further develop our partnership with TAG Heuer."
