Telstra officials claimed typical 4G download speeds are between 2Mbps and 40Mbps, with typical upload speeds of 1Mbps to 10Mbps. That's a broad range for 'typical'. The phone itself is capable of 100Mbps down and 50Mbps up.

4G coverage is currently available within 5km of the GPO in each capital city, and within 3km of more than 80 regional and metropolitan town centres. Outside those areas, the Velocity 4G uses the 3G network.

Features of the Android phone include a 1.5GHz dual core processor, 16GB of storage plus a microSD slot, FM radio, 4.5in 540x960 capacitive screen, 8MP camera supporting 1080p video plus a 1.3MP front camera, Wi-Fi (b/g/n), Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, and DLNA for streaming content to other compatible devices.

The Velocity 4G is offered on various plans ranging from $69 to $129 per month.
