The phone is now in that weird territory occupied by Samsung's recently released Galaxy Note 3 - is it a phone? Is it a tablet? No-one knows, but it might not really matter with specs like these.
The phone now sports a 5.9 inch 1080p screen and, interestingly, a fingerprint scanner - although unlike the iPhone it's located on the back of the device. HTC said the One Max can be locked or unlocked with a touch on its fingerprint scanner, and it can also be used to launch up to three favorite apps, each triggered by a different finger.
The HTC One Max weighs in at 217 grams (compared to 143 grams for the HTC One, and 168 grams for Samsung's Galaxy Note 3). It's also 16 centimeters long and 10.3mm thick, largely due to the BoomSound speakers.
The back cover is now removable, letting you expand the 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage with up to 64GB more via microSD, but the battery is still unfortunately not replaceable. The One Max sticks with a Snapdragon 600 processor and 2GB of RAM, and has the same WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities as its predecessor.
As for software the HTC One Max will run Taiwanese company's Sense 5.5 software, which runs on top of Android 4.3 and provides a new level of customization for the BlinkFeed news-glancing widget.
Pricing and availability for Australia has yet to be announced.
