Citrix adds more connectors and cloud options to ShareFile Featured

By

Citrix ShareFile enterprise cloud storage and synchronisation product is getting a boost with more storage options plus integration with XenMobile to provide secure data containers for mobile apps.

The Citrix ShareFile cloud storage and synchronisation product is positioned as an enterprise alternative to services such as Dropbox, providing IT management with control over where the data is stored and other controls.

A newly announced update to ShareFile delivers the ability to access data from its original location, to use Windows Azure storage, and integration with XenMobile.

ShareFile Storage Zone Connectors allow ShareFile users to access data stored on network drives or in SharePoint in addition to native ShareFile data.

The iOS and Android apps allow editing and resaving of files, and the SharePoint support includes the ability to check-out, edit, save and then check-in Microsoft Office documents (or annotate PDF files) from the device.

ShareFile already provides for data storage in the organisation's own facilities or in Citrix-managed cloud storage. The update extends this by giving the option of storing data in Windows Azure.

As for XenMobile integration, IT can provide secure and controlled access to enterprise data on mobile devices by using ShareFile as a platform for secure containers accessible to Worx-enabled mobile apps.

"Striking the balance between mobility and security is a perennial challenge for enterprises," said Citrix vice president and general manager of data sharing Jesse Lipson.

"The new innovations from Citrix give users the power of mobile access to their data while giving IT the absolute flexibility to choose how sensitive data is stored, accessed and shared.

"Seamless integrations with other Citrix technologies and partnerships with top industry players provide a true enterprise-ready solution."

The new features will be available next month.
