5G smartphone price war stepped up as vivo Y52 offered for $379 Supplied

Chinese smartphone maker vivo has undercut its own stablemate OPPO and released a 5G phone, the Y52 5G, that is cheaper than OPPO's A54 5G which was released in April.

While the OPPO product costs $399, vivo's Y52 5G costs $379 and is available for $349 from some outlets until 17 August.

In some respects, the Y52 5G outdoes its OPPO competitor, offering 128GB of storage, double what the A54 5G does. Additionally, it has 18W fast charging.

The vivo model has a MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC as opposed to the Qualcomm 480 which drives the A54 5G.

“5G is becoming more accessible and that shouldn't mean you need to spend more to future proof your smartphone," said vivo mobile Australia communications manager Laura Hayward.

"We are thrilled to offer Australians the most affordable 5G smartphone, delivering a premium experience at a low price point."

She added that with the Y52 5G, vivo was hoping that more Australians than before would be able to enjoy the latest technology.
