Sam Varghese has been writing for iTWire since 2006, a year after the site came into existence. For nearly a decade thereafter, he wrote mostly about free and open source software, based on his own use of this genre of software. Ten years ago, Bruce Perens made what would be a move with huge repercussions, when he published what he called the Open Source Definition. That definition has helped hundreds of businesses but Perens himself does not rank very high in the popularity stakes these days because of his opposition to the marriage between Novell and Microsoft.
