Sam Varghese has been writing for iTWire since 2006, a year after the site came into existence. Despite suffering a ransomware attack that affected all 9.7 million of its customers, medical insurer Medibank Group has paid its chief executive David Koczkar and other top bosses their annual bonuses, worth about $7.3 million.

Data published by the individual(s), who attacked the medical insurer Medibank Group using ransomware, has now been linked to from a forum on the clear Web, the same forum where the data from telco Singtel Optus was released. Ransomware generally attacks only systems running Microsoft's Windows operating system.
