Online bill payments to soar

In the US, more businesses - from cellphone services to newspapers to mortgage lenders - are realising the financial benefits of electronic payments and, in 2003, consumers paid an estimated three billion bills through automatic bank-account debits alone, with the industry expecting that figure to rise 12 per cent this year, reports The New York Times (28 Nov).
