Meldium joins LogMeIn family

By

Cloud services provider LogMeIn has acquired BBA, a startup offering cloud-based single-sign-on, password management, and identity and access management under the Meldium brand.

"For years, LogMeIn has been about access to things," senior director of products John Purcell told iTWire.

Complementing LogMeIn's AppGuru which helps with the discovery and management of BYO applications, Meldium makes it easier for administrators to deliver a 'vault' of cloud-based applications to users without revealing the passwords associated with the individual services.

This means deprovisioning is also simplified, as once a former user's vault is deleted they can no longer use those services as they never had access to the credentials.

Meldium works with almost 1500 cloud applications and services, including Box, Disqus, Dropbox, Evernote, Google Apps, LogMeIn, Netsuite, Rackspace, Salesforce.com, Windows Azure, WordPress, Xero, and Zendesk.

At present, users are authenticated via their own Google accounts. "It's a starting point," said Mr Purcell.

Active Directory integration is planned, and Mr Purcell hinted that other identity providers may be added.

"Meldium has created what we believe is one of the most elegant, intuitive SSO solutions on the market today,” said LogMeIn CEO Michael Simon.

"We believe the addition of Meldium and SSO – together with the identity and cloud app management capabilities introduced in AppGuru – will accelerate our ability to address some of today’s most pressing IT challenges, while positioning us favourably to compete in the fastest growing part of the identity management market."

Meldium currently offers a free plan for up to five users. Paid plans start at US$29 per month for 20 users.

Automatic account creation and deletion on supported web apps is included with plans from US$79 a month for 100 users. Enterprise plans (prices on application) add API access, custom integrations, and phone support.

LogMeIn has yet to announce any changes to these arrangements, though it has indicated its intention to integrate Meldium's capabilities into its other services.

According to company officials, LogMeIn paid around US$15 million cash for BBA, although part of that is subject to performance and retention conditions.
