VIDEO Interview: Denodo's Ravi Shankar talks Data Virtualisation and more during Australian visit

During a visit to Australia to present at the Gartner 2019 IT Symposium/Xpo on the Gold Coast, Denodo's SVP and CMO, Ravi Shankar, caught up with iTWire to talk data virtualisation and more.

Denodo. Founded in 1999, the company has grown over the last twenty years to become a "leader in data virtualisation, providing agile, high performance data integration and data abstraction across the broadest range of enterprise, cloud, big data and unstructured data sources, and real-time data services at half the cost of traditional approaches".

This means it enables business users to search for data and discover relationships between data points and references, and to connect all of their data in real time, using data virtualisation to integrate data without replicating it.

In essence, companies now have a very efficient way to take advantage of all the information available to them in ways that simply weren't possible before, and the results speak for themselves, with Denodo having won many industry awards over that time, leading to "customers across every major industry" that have "gained significant business agility and ROI".

So, with Denodo's SVP and CMO, Ravi Shankar in Australia to present at the 2019 Gartner IT Symposium and Xpo, which Denodo was also was also one of the sponsors of, it was very interesting to take the opportunity to talk to Shankar and learn more.

This is especially so, given the obviously large number of companies still on the entire digital transformation journey, or upgrading from previously started journeys, and not yet fully taking advantage of all the benefits that modern technology affords us all in the quest to be more productive, profitable and of better service to customers.

Before we get to the video interview with Ravi Shankar, embedded below, it's also worth noting Denodo stating it is "the only platform that can automatically apply sophisticated optimisation techniques that are crucial in big data scenarios".

In addition, it is listed on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure Marketplaces, as well as being available in a Docker container, and last week announced it is also available on the Google Could platform marketplace.

During our video interview, we looked at Denodo's history and what it offers to its customers today, and what data virtualisation means. We looked at the Australian market and how we compare with the rest of the world, where Denodo sees the most growth and who some of its customers are.

We explored the benefits of data virtualisation and its place in a successful data plan, and the other factors organisation should be considering.

We spoke about Ravi's presentation at the Gartner IT Symposium and Xpo, what the future holds, great advice in life and Ravi's final message to viewers and readers.
