Tableau Online 9.0 does more, faster

By

A new release of the Tableau Online cloud analytics software offers improved performance and new features.

Tableau Online version 9.0 offers faster performance, a wider range of database connectivity, and a range of new features.

Tableau Online 9.0 is the result of a complete redesign, according to the company. Features such as parallel queries, query fusion, vectorization, and smarter query caches are said to make the product up to ten times faster.

Direct connections to MySQL, Postgres, and SQL Server on cloud-hosted platforms including Amazon RDS and Windows Azure are now supported. Tableau Online already provided connectivity to Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Google Analytics, and Salesforce.com.

Version 9.0 also delivers a new way to synchronise on-premises data, appropriately called Tableau Online Sync.

Other new features include single sign-on support via SAML2.0, and support for easy embedding of Tableau dashboards in Salesforce via Force.com Canvas.

“More and more organizations are moving to the cloud and bringing their data with them,” said Dan Jewett, Vice President, Product Management at Tableau. “Tableau Online 9.0 not only is faster than ever, but it makes it easier for customers to keep their dashboards in the cloud up-to-date, and supports even simpler embedding in popular cloud platforms like Salesforce. This is a fantastic update for our cloud customers.”

A free trial of Tableau Online is available.
