VIDEO: WaterSecure launches Flo by Moen's water leakage detection and monitoring system

By

Brought to Australia for the first time by WaterSecure, the Flo system by well-known US faucet brand Moen can "continuously monitor for water leakage and prevent water damage", and it's available locally now - and naturally features a smartphone app.

With water being one of the world's most precious resources, and wars over water long predicted, a product that can detect damaging and wasteful water leaks in your home or business should have been available in a country like Australia long ago.

That it has taken until 2020 to become available is a different story, especially when Australia is well known as a land of droughts and flooding rains, but at least the technology is now available.

The company bringing Flo to Australia is called WaterSecureCo, which is billing itself as "Australia’s first smart water security company", and it has "launched with the goal of protecting as many Australian’s as they can against water loss and damage".

The company tells us that "instances of water damage in Australia have been rising dramatically and in the past 10 years, the frequency of sudden water pipe bursts have nearly doubled. At the same time, even though Australia is the driest continent on Earth, Australian households hold the worst record for water consumption globally (according to the Chubb's Get Smart About Water Leaks report) as one of the most carefree water uses on the planet (according to the Water Factsheet from Cool Australia).

Here's a short video explainer - the article continues thereafter, please read on:

WaterSecure states that it "combines the innovation of the leading US product Flo, with local industry expertise to offer water security and savings for homeowners" and says it has "partnered with Planet Plumbing, a leading Australian owned plumbing and mechanical services business, to bring WaterSecure to life through its nationwide network."

WaterSecure notes that its products "offer a suite of options that work together or independently to protect homes from water damage and leaks, 24/7. Installed on the main water supply line, the Flo Smart Water Shutoff protects the entire home from water damage and leaks. The product continuously monitors your home’s water pressure, flow rate and can detect leaks as small as one drop per minute anywhere in the home or business, automatically triggering the shut-off feature from the main supply line."

Obviously, in the modern era, it's no surprise to see that Flo products have an accompanying app, with 24/7 monitoring, automatic daily health tests, alters, diagnostics and smartphone control, along with remote and automatic water shut-off.

Here's another video that explains it all, after which the article continues:

Flo Smart Water Detectors can be placed anywhere in the home that may be particularly vulnerable to drainage or weather-related leaks. If an issue is detected, not only will you receive real-time notifications but when used in conjunction with the Smart Water Shutoff, the detectors can trigger the shut-off feature to protect the home from water damage immediately.

Marcus Fantl, Co-founder of WaterSecure Co says that in building the brand, it was important to create a simple no-fuss solution for customers: “One of the best things about the product is how easy it is to use. Homeowners and business customers can download the free Flo app to have complete control over the water in their home so that they will always know what is going on, from pipe leaks and taps left on, to monitoring holiday homes and managing consumption during summer water restrictions.

Living in a drought-stricken country, we know how important it is to save water and the products’ smart technology quickly learns the unique water footprint of your home to better identify water usage irregularities putting you back in control,” added Fantl.

Anthony Alafaci, MD of Planet Plumbing said: “At Planet Plumbing, we’re thrilled to be a partner of WaterSecure Co and the team are excited to get started with the products and help educate customers on the services available.

"The product couldn’t be easier for consumers to purchase and have installed with WaterSecure Co being the one stop shop for getting home or business owners set up. With Flo’s success in the US, we’re confident that this product has the innovation and expertise to save thousands of Australians money and the stress of water damage.”

So, what do the Flo products cost, and where can you find more info?

The Flo Smart Water Shutoff retails at $899.00 and the Flo Smart Water Detector retails at $99.00. There's also a "Total Home Security Kit" for $1099. The products are also available to buy now, pay later on Zip Pay, with more detail at the WaterSecure Co site

Here's a final video to show how important it is to prevent water leaks:

Now’s the Time for 400G Migration

The optical fibre community is anxiously awaiting the benefits that 400G capacity per wavelength will bring to existing and future fibre optic networks.

Nearly every business wants to leverage the latest in digital offerings to remain competitive in their respective markets and to provide support for fast and ever-increasing demands for data capacity. 400G is the answer.

Initial challenges are associated with supporting such project and upgrades to fulfil the promise of higher-capacity transport.

The foundation of optical networking infrastructure includes coherent optical transceivers and digital signal processing (DSP), mux/demux, ROADM, and optical amplifiers, all of which must be able to support 400G capacity.

With today’s proprietary power-hungry and high cost transceivers and DSP, how is migration to 400G networks going to be a viable option?

PacketLight's next-generation standardised solutions may be the answer. Click below to read the full article.
