Snap and Google bringing 'Quick Tap to Snap' on Pixel 6, plus exclusive AR lenses, and Live Translate in Snapchat

Snap is bringing a new feature to Google's new Pixel 6 and 6 Pro smartphones first, putting the Snapchat camera directly onto the lockscreen for fast & easy access, delivering some exclusive augmented reality lenses and the Live Translate feature which lets Snapchatters talk to their friends in 10 languages, translated in real time.

Snap Inc's CEO, Evan Spiegel, was part of Google's Pixel 6 and 6 Pro launch earlier today, to launch a new Pixel-first feature called “Quick Tap to Snap.”

You can see Evan's presentation towards the end of this "Camera" section of the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro launch, which is embedded below.

The feature is launching later this year, and it is "the first time Snap has created a camera-mode version of Snapchat accessible directly from a phone lockscreen, and will make the Pixel 6 the fastest phone to make a Snap."

Snap notes it is "always looking for ways to innovate around our Camera and help our community Snap everyday moments, as they happen".

Here’s how Snap explains it works: "By tapping the back of your phone, you can create Snaps and play with Lenses directly from the lock screen, without having to unlock your phone. Once a Snap is ready to share, log in to your phone’s lock screen to directly unlock the full app experience.

"But wait, there’s more: We’re teaming up with Google to launch exclusive augmented reality Lenses, as well as supporting some of Google’s Pixel features, like Ultra Wide Angle and live translation, within Snapchat’s camera and chat on Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. You can take wide angle Snaps and also talk to your friends in more than 10 languages, and translate conversations in real-time."

These features, along with Quick Tap to Snap, will launch over the coming months.

Nana Murugesan, Snap’s Managing Director of International Markets said: "Billions of Snaps are created every day, and through strategic partnerships like these with smartphone device makers, Snapchat is making it easier than ever for our community to Snap moments as they happen with their friends.

“This OEM lockscreen integration is a key step toward making Snapchat the fastest way to share a moment, and we look forward to bringing more innovation to our community with our partners at Google and beyond.

Rick Osterloh, Google’s SVP, Devices and Services said: “Google Pixel 6 has the most advanced Pixel camera ever, and Snapchatters are some of the most creative camera users there are. It’s exciting to partner with Snap to bring this exclusive capability to our new phones and help users capture the world as it happens."
