Opera vice-president for product marketing and communications Jan Standal told iTWire in response to an inquiry that the Opera VPN application had been provided by SurfEasy.
"SurfEasy used to be part of Opera, but was recently acquired by Symantec," he said.
"Now SurfEasy announced the end of this specific product and are offering users upgrade solutions to their other VPN apps.
The VPN service for the desktop browser offers a choice of connecting through four locations: the optimal location (selected by the software), the Americas, Europe and Asia.
The VPN was launched in September 2016 and uses 256-bit AES encrypted connection.
Opera has versions of its browser for Windows, the Mac and Linux.
