Last minute Mother’s Day tech gifts guide!

If your Mum is cyber savvy, loves a good gadget and wants something a LOT more exciting than a toaster, socks or yet more flowers, then here are some suggestions!

Ok, ok, so socks are usually a Father’s Day present, not something you’d normally give to your Mum, but why not treat her to some technological treats this year?

The suggestions have helpfully come from a couple of PR companies naturally wanting to promote the wares of their clients, but I’d have a look through them all, and while not everything will appeal to every Mum, there’s definitely some good ideas here.

All of the products are easily available at retail, or can be purchased online.

I’ve unfortunately been a bit tardy in getting this list up, as I’ve been a bit unwell this week (and should have published it last week), but if something really appeals and is only easily available online, Mum will hopefully understand if your present arrives next week!

So, let’s start with the first set of products from the first PR company, Closer Communications, which has cleverly broken the items down into pricing categories, the first of which is under $50.

1. In the under $50 section, there is an Alcatel Pixi 4 3.5-inch screen Android smartphone, available from Optus.

2. There’s also a Belkin Rose Gold iPhone car charger, with separately included rose gold USB to Lightning charger cable at $19.95 from the Apple Store.

3. This is followed by a ‘Laser’ branded Bluetooth tracker for your keys or other devices, just $19.95 from

After this comes the products under $100.

1. Here I see a Laser-branded Full HD Car Crash Cam for $59.95. These devices are designed to help you when an accident or something occurs in front of your car. Taxi drivers I’ve spoken to say these have helped them avoid hundreds of dollars in fines and provide proof to the police in case of accidents, so they are extremely valuable and a great safety present.

2. Next up under $100 is an Alcatel Pixi 1st smartphone, for $99 from Australia Post.

3. Then there’s the Belkin Metallic Power Pack 6600 - just $79.95 from the Apple Store, available in a Rose Gold colour (and presumably other colours, too).

Then we get to the $200+ section.

1. Here I see the amazing Alcatel GoPlay Android smartphone, which is water, dust and shock proof, and available for $299.

2. The 360Fly 360-degree HD Camera lets you capture family moments as never before, at $649 from JB Hi-Fi.

3. The Alcatel Pop Star 5-inch Android smartphone is just $249.

Then there are two fantastic portable Bluetooth speakers:

4. There's the Cambridge Audio G2 Portable Bluetooth Speaker for $449 from

5. And then there's the Cambridge Audio G6 Portable Bluetooth Speaker, also from Synergy, for $449.

6. Finally in this $200+ list is another product from Synergy Audio - the Ruark Audio R1 Tabletop Radio - $449.

PLENTY more below, please read on!

Next up in this list is a series of products looked after by PR firm Text 100 - I've left all the text as is, no time to change it - read on anyway!

The first product they’re suggestion is the Plantronics BackBeat FIT for $159.

The product’s blurb say that ‘the Plantronics BackBeat FIT is the perfect workout partner for your Mum - no matter what her activity level is.

‘The wireless stereo headphones are custom-built for use during an active lifestyle, providing water and sweat proof capabilities and a stable and comfortable fit. Connecting to devices wirelessly via Bluetooth, the small, lightweight BackBeat FIT lets users focus on fitness and enjoy their music, providing Plantronics’ renowned audio excellence and eliminating the distraction of tangled cords.’

Then we move on to the Plantronics BackBeat Sense at $269.95.

We’re told: ‘Whether you want to get lost in a playlist, podcast, or movie, the BackBeat SENSE combines barely-there lightweight materials, best-in-class Bluetooth battery life, smart sensors, understated style, and signature Plantronics audio.
