Fritz!Box heading our way via PCRange and Internode

A high-spec home/SOHO modem/router from Germany will go on sale in Australia early next year. The Fritz!Box incorporates VoIP and DECT capabilities as well as the usual Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Fritz!Box family of ADSL2+ modem/routers include an Ethernet WAN port (handy if you ever switch to a non-ADSL connection, such as a FTTH service a la NBN or other provider), Wi-Fi and Ethernet LAN connections, a DECT base station, and a built-in two-line VoIP adaptor.

Other features include IPv6 and IPTV support, PABX-style functions including an email-enabled answering machine and fax support.

The telephony functions also include HD Voice, said to give better than PSTN audio quality for calls between two Fritz!Boxes.

Two models will be offered by Australian distributor PCRange once the devices have been certified.

The $A369 Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7270 features ADSL2+, four 100MBPS Ethernet ports and dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n.

The $A469 Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7390 supports ADSL2+ and VDSL2, and features four gigabit Ethernet ports, concurrent dual-band WLAN access points, ISDN support and on-board storage for NAS and a media server.

A small range of accessory products will also be available - see page 2.

PCRange will also distribute Germany-based Fritz!Box manufacturer AVM's $A129 DECT cordless phone handsets that are optimised for use with the Fritz!Box, as well as the $A89 Stick 'N Surf dual-band wireless USB adaptor.

"Fritz!Box complements our existing extensive product range by adding the highest end consumer and SOHO devices ever seen in this market," said PCRange CEO Raaj Menon.

The Fritz!Boxes will initially be available from Internode, which will offer special prices for new or renewing subscribers on 24-month contracts.

Internode managing director Simon Hackett said "the Fritz!Box is far and away the best broadband services router I have ever seen or used. It has the best user interface and every conceivable feature you're likely to need."

" With full IPTV support to go with our FetchTV offerings, and built-in media server functions, it's also the ideal device to expand your Internet experience to the lounge room in a seamless and easy way," he added.
