Epson’s new ‘EcoTank Pro’ printer ideal for small biz, home offices and workgroups

Joining multifunction printers in the EcoTank and EcoTank Photo range is the new ET-5800, a new EcoTank Pro ET-5800 that’s an A4 wireless all-in-one printer. Epson says it “offers fast, cartridge-free printing with enough ink to print up to 4,500 pages black and 2,800 pages in colour - and easy-to-fill ink tanks providing low cost printing”.

Epson’s EcoTank printers kicked off the “2 years of ink” cartridge-free revolution, and after selling 40 million EcoTanks in 2019 and reaching 50 million sales worldwide as reported in early October 2020, the EcoTank is going Pro.

The ET-5800 is the new EcoTank Pro printer designed for the small business, home office and workgroups market, priced at $1199, and promising to “deliver fast print times of 25 black and white pages and 12 colour pages per minute with no warmup time for fast first page out and due to its use of Epson’s Heat-Free Technology, boasts ultra-low power consumption”.

The new printer joins a smart home laser TV projector and the new FastFoto app that you can read separately articles about, while the launch video of the event can be be seen below in full, which includes information on the new EcoTank Pro ET-5800 printer - there’s plenty more info below, please read on!

Epson also launched an impressive smart home laser TV projector which you can read about here, and the FastFoto app upgrade for the FastFoto FF-680W WiFi photo scanner, which you can read about here.

It’s 2020, and no matter what COVID has thrown at us, technology gets better every year, and it’s no exception with the EcoTank Pro.

This is clear with Epson’s statement that the ET-5800 “uses Epson DURABrite pigment ink and delivers professional-quality output and vibrant borderless prints. It also includes a 500-sheet paper capacity, rear specialty-paper feed, plus a large 4.3-inch colour touchscreen for easy navigation”.

Epson GM Marketing Bruce Bealby explained: “Having listened keenly to our customers we now have three EcoTank categories, EcoTank for superb quality, hassle-free printing at an ultra-low cost and the ideal solution for busy homes and home offices.

“Then EcoTank Pro featuring high speed, heavy-duty models designed to provide worry-free, cost-effective printing to small businesses, home offices and workgroups. Finally, we have EcoTank Photo featuring five colour printing and delivering superb photo quality for those aspiring photographers and enthusiasts.

“In short we now have an EcoTank printer for every application at home or in the office and the fact that they all use our patented Heat-Free Technology saves users money and is much kinder to the environment.”

Epson also claims “the new ET-5800 and indeed the entire EcoTank Pro Series offer savings up to 80% with low-cost replacement ink bottles versus standard capacity colour laser toner cartridges and leverages Epson PrecisionCore Heat-Free Technology to deliver fast, consistent and heavy-duty performance”.

Epson reminds us its “EcoTank Pro printers feature zero cartridge waste and their wireless all-in-one printers offer fast cartridge-free printing with easy-to-fill large ink tanks producing ultra-low cost per page making them ideal for businesses pursuing low-cost replacement ink options”.

Bealby added: "Large ink tank printer adoption is growing rapidly worldwide and as a result Epson recently sold its 50,000,000th EcoTank printer. Printers like the EcoTank Pro ET-5800 will accelerate that growth.

“PrecisionCore Heat-Free Technology is optimal for small, home and larger office printing and we are looking to further disrupt the industry, demonstrating that cartridge-free EcoTank Pro Series printers are cost-effective and offer fast, reliable professional-quality colour prints.

“While these robust machines are designed for heavy-duty performance, the EcoTank Pro printers are also a great solution for high-volume production now also being done at home."

What’s more info on Epson’s Heat-Free Technology?

Epson says its “innovative PrecisionCore Heat-Free Printing Technology is designed to deliver performance, affordable printing and simplicity to meet the needs of the home and office printers alike.

“PrecisionCore Heat-Free Technology offers a fast first page out time, delivering high-quality printing with low power consumption, and high-capacity ink supplies all designed to be affordable, reliable and to reduce downtime”.

Here’s more information as supplied by Epson:

Users save time with its consistent high-speed printing

Requiring no heat to warm up when switched on or awoken from sleep, Epson Inkjet printers with PrecisionCore Heat-Free Technology print immediately compared to laser printers, which need to pre-heat the fuser to print. There are also no delays caused by accumulated heat in the printhead, and consistent high-speed printing is ensured, even for documents with high-printing density.

Less power consumption saves energy and money

Epson inkjet printers have no fuser unit to heat, which results in significantly less energy consumption. The operating time and electricity consumption can also be optimised because unlike other printers, there are no delays caused by accumulated heat in the printhead. These inkjet printers also need 85 percent less power to operate3, which translates to lower energy costs.

Fewer replacement parts, lower environmental impact

Laser printers typically have more consumables and require periodic replacement of the drum, transfer belt and fuser. On the other hand, Epson inkjet printers use fewer parts that need replacing. The printheads are also not a consumable, thus, reducing the environmental burden of manufacturing and recycling additional resources.

Less intervention increases productivity

The Heat-Free structure of Epson inkjet printers means there are fewer parts that can fail, which reduces the amount of interventions required. Additionally, there is no heat damage to the printheads to guarantee that they last longer. Therefore, Epson inkjet printers offer improved reliability, significantly reduced downtime, and lower costs even in the long run.
