Home Home Tech Bitdefender 2019 'will stop most sophisticated attacks', now includes 'ransomware remediation'

With only Trend Micro and Acronis promising real ransomware protection until now, Bitdefender is the latest to promise a real dialling up of aggression against online crime with its 2019 suite.

Trend Micro has its Maximum Security 2018 suite which was the first Internet security suite I'm aware of to promote, promise and provide anti-ransomware tools that could detect encryption in progress and shut it down, as well as some free decryption tools here

Then there's Acronis, which not only offered its Acronis Active Protection as part of its True Image 2018 suite to also detect encryption and stop it, as well as restoring encrpyted files via the back-ups that Acronis makes, which the company also generously provides in a separate and free Acronis Ransomware Protection tool for those wanting robust and free anti-ransomware protection but who aren't yet ready to purchase the full Acronis True Image 2018 suite.

Bitdefender has burst onto the scene with news of its latest 2019 consumer line, including its fully powered Total Security 2019 suite for up to five devices, normally A$119.99, but on sale at 40% off for A$72 (with a 10-device option available), its mid-range Internet Security 2019 suite with the same feature at A$99 for three devices (with pricing also available for 1, 3, 5 and 10 devices), and which is also included in the company's baseline Antivirus Plus 2019 solution for A$69 for three devices (with pricing also available for 1, 3, 5 and 10 devices), with the most powerful Total Security suite obviously the one Bitdefender wants the public to take most notice of, and buy.

Bitdefender is, of course, no novice in the world of Internet security, in business since 2001 with over 500 million users in over 150 countries, and in a competitive world, not just amongst peers but against ever cunningly smarter online criminals, it's no surprise to see Bitdefender state it is "aggressively raising the bar on industry standards", stating its "new consumer security line stops cybercriminals before they attack, sniffs them out based on their behaviour, and protects customers from all angles".

Key new features in Bitdefender’s 2019 product line include:

  • Network threat prevention – monitors the system in-depth for all avenues of attack, including botnet attacks, vulnerabilities, brute-force attempts and more
  • Ransomware remediation – identifies ransomware-behaviour and automatically backs up and restores your files, rendering the encryption from ransomware useless
  • Security advisor – a completely new approach to Autopilot technology that evolves from the silent partner to a security advisor that recommends features depending on the users needs
  • Web attack prevention – the web filtering technology ensures you never land on a harmful website
  • Anti-phishing technology – sniffs and blocks websites that masquerade as a legitimate site to steal passwords or credit card numbers
  • Anti-fraud – warns you whenever you visit websites that may try to scam you
  • Bitdefender safe files – helps you prevent unauthorised changes to your most important files.

As noted above, Bitdefender is also keen to promote the fact its "defence against the rapid spread of online crime is now stronger than ever with Ransomware Remediation".

The company explains "this new technology is the ultimate defence against zero-day ransomware attacks – it identifies ransomware-behaviour and automatically backs up and restores your files, rendering the encryption from ransomware useless".

Bitdefender’s vice-president of Consumer Solutions, Ciprian Istrate, said: "Bitdefender has been at the forefront of the online security industry since its inception, taking big strides forward with each new generation of products.

“With our latest state of the art anti-ransomware technologies, we are taking data protection to new levels. We’re safeguarding people’s daily online lives using technology that only a short while ago was a security strategist’s seemingly impossible dream.”

So, how is Bitdefender expanding upon those key features in its technology for 2019?

Well, with the 2019 line, Bitdefender states it is adopting "a more pro-active role as your Security Advisor, a completely new approach to Autopilot technology that evolves from the silent partner that takes care of things to a security advisor that helps users discover how they can benefit from additional security features depending on their specific needs.”

Bitdefender 2019 also brings "major advances to its Advanced Threat Defence, which closely monitors active apps for suspicious behaviour, ready to take instant action to prevent infection. Improvements in Web Attack Prevention, the web filtering technology ensures you never land on a harmful website and informs you whether your search results are safe before you click on a link".

There's also "State-of-the-art Anti-Phishing technology sniffs and blocks websites that masquerade as a legitimate site to steal passwords or credit card numbers. Anti-Fraud warns you whenever you visit websites that may try to scam you, and Bitdefender Safe Files helps you prevent unauthorised changes to your most important files".

As you'd expect, 30 day trials of each suite are also available should you be interested in trying them out.
