The infamous failed Click Frenzy internet sale is back, but weary shoppers have every right to be cautious this time around.

Every internet shopper and his dog will remember last year’s Click Frenzy, in which approximately 1.7 million would-be shoppers almost bought something online on one fabled day in November.

The much hyped site, bringing together Australian retailers for a day of online Cyber Monday action, crashed as soon as the sales begun, and the ‘big hope’ of saving Aussie retail failed. Big time.

The whole fiasco (and avalanche of negative press that followed) hasn’t stopped Melbourne businessman Grant Arnott, who today announced a second Click Frenzy on April 23, which will be “ready for 3 million customers.”

“Our initial forecast and our promise to advertisers was that we would get around 250,000 to 300,000 customers,” Arnott told AAP today.

"But it just took off at a rate beyond our wildest expectations."

AAP is also reporting the Australian Retailers Association are optimistic about the new event, and said some Australian retailers were still behind when it came to online sale volumes.

"We are catching up very rapidly, certainly people like Myer, David Jones are getting their websites up to scratch," director Russell Zimmerman told AAP.

The news follows a study showing Aussie small businesses are failing big time when it comes to social media.
