Say it with cookies: Australian Businesswoman of the Year sending sweet slice of hope to COVID impacted hospitals

By

Kate Toon, the My Business Awards "Australian Businesswoman of the Year", is helping spread a little joy to the front-line health workers doing it tough in Sydney’s most affected COVID-19 postcodes, by sending cookies of positivity as a way of saying thanks.

Sometimes, it's not about copywriting, or SEO, or business success, or IT, or backups, or security, but about humanity - especially during the crazy COVID era we now live in, which decidedly isn't anywhere near the "post-COVID" era everyone was hoping we would be in by now, as lockdowns continue, and hospitals have rising numbers of COVID patients.

In comes the “You Are Awesome” cookies, complete with a smiley sunshine face, which were designed by Kate Toon and her team, have been created with the help of Adri from Adri’s Gingerbread, and are Kate’s way of showing appreciation to the nurses who are doing it tough.

“I know it’s not an earth-shattering contribution, but like all small business owners right now, I’m doing it tough. I wanted to do something that would show the frontline workers they’re appreciated. And bring a little smile to their day,” said Kate.

Initially, hundreds of the cookies will be sent to four hospitals that have been heavily affected by the Covid crisis: Westmead, Nepean, St George and Liverpool hospitals.

Kate added: “We spoke to some nurses, and they said often the night shift workers miss out, so we’re sending different boxes for different shifts, in the hope that everyone will get to share in this little sweet moment of sunshine.

“I thought about an COVID-19 message, but in the end, I decided what we all need right now is a ray of sunshine and positivity. A break from the doom and gloom.”

Adriana Parncutt from Adri’s Gingerbread said she’s happy to be providing a bit of support to the project, and added: “Life is pretty hard for so many at the moment, a little treat might just help a little."

Kate Toon has a social media following of more than 55,000, and she’s shared her cookie plans online and been inundated with offers of support from other business owners as a result.

Kate has now started a Go Fund Me page to raise funds to send out even more cookies to workers on the frontline.

“I’m hopeful that with the support of other businesses we can send even more cookies, and bring some warm and fuzzies to the frontline workers who need it most,” Kate concluded.

Kate Toon is not only the Australian Businesswoman of the Year, but also a misfit entrepreneur, a business coach, SEO lover, copywriter, podcaster, speaker, author, hula hooper and now an awesome giver of hope who takes anything but a standard cookie cutter approach to life.

Kate's StayTooned group of companies include "the Digital Masterchefs, The Clever Copywriting School, and The Recipe for SEO Success. Through these, Kate’s helped more than 11,000 other businesses demystify digital marketing, grapple the Google Beast, and grow their online success."

iTWireTV featured Kate in February this year in an article and video interview titled: "VIDEO Interview: Kate Toon talks Clubhouse, digital business and the wonderful multiverse of misfit entrepreneurialism."

I'm reposting that video interview below!
