This trial enables those who wish to apply for a tax file number using the service to do so. The system is opt-in.
When the trial began, the government said that an Android app would be issued this year and a Web interface would be provided after that. There is no indication as yet as to whether either of these have been provided.
myGovID is being run by the Australian Taxation Office and the Department of Human Services. It is overseen by the Digital Transformation Agency. The company providing the cloud service for the trial has not been disclosed.
There is also a proposal to integrate myGovID with myGov so that it can be used to access the portal which serves as a front-end to many government services, the ATO foremost.
But given that an election is due in May, and the government does not appear likely to be voted back into office, when these trials will eventuate is unknown.
