ACMA seeks feedback on news measurement tool

By Gordon Peters

The telecommunications industry regulator the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has released a consultation paper seeking feedback on a ‘news measurement framework’ to monitor levels of diversity across Australia’s contemporary media landscape.

The ACMA says the proposed framework was initially outlined in an ACMA 2020 research paper, and was developed in collaboration with leading experts - and n late 2022, the Minister for Communications asked the ACMA t o proceed with scoping the potential implementation of this work.

The ACMA is now seeking views from relevant stakeholders including media companies, digital news and social media platforms, government bodies, academia and consumers on the suitability of its proposed framework, with the consultation open for comment until 5pm (AEDT) Friday 17 March 2023.

“We will also be hosting industry and subject-matter expert roundtables during this period to explore these issues in greater detail.

“n addition to providing a better understanding of media diversity, this work will also build on existing tools and research to measure local news availability across Australia and identify possible areas of concern.”

The ACMA says the project will contribute towards the government’s objective to build a robust evidence base to inform longer term news media policy interventions as part of its News Media Assistance Program (News MAP).

ENABLE HYBRID CLOUD & REDUCE NETWORK LATENCY WHITEPAPER

Hybrid cloud promises to bring together the best of both worlds enabling businesses to combine the scalability and cost-effectiveness of the cloud with the performance and control that you can get from your on-premise infrastructure.

Reducing WAN latency is one of the biggest issues with hybrid cloud performance. Taking advantage of compression and data deduplication can reduce your network latency.

Research firm, Markets and Markets, predicted that the hybrid cloud market size is expected to grow from US$38.27 billion in 2017 to US$97.64 billion by 2023.

Colocation facilities provide many of the benefits of having your servers in the cloud while still maintaining physical control of your systems.

Cloud adjacency provided by colocation facilities can enable you to leverage their low latency high bandwidth connections to the cloud as well as providing a solid connection back to your on-premises corporate network.
