Rowland has held the seat since 2010 and while she has never held a Federal ministry position previously, she comes to the role with prior experience as Shadow Minister for Communications, and with pre-political experience as a senior telecommunications lawyer with the law firm Gilbert + Tobin.
Rowland has also served as a local councillor and deputy Mayor of Blacktown, and a Director of the Western Sydney Area Health Service.
Rowland was sworn into the job on Wednesday morning before attending the first full Albanese ministry meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
Rowland now has the task of implementing the Labor party's NBN commitments which include upgrades to see 90% of Australians in the fixed-line footprint able to order gigabit speeds by 2025.
