World's tiniest viola plays for Uber as Ola slays with successful Perth launch

By

After a successful soft launch in Perth, the Indian ride-sharing company Ola is offering "free rides for a week to riders and increased earnings potential for driver-partners".

When it comes to companies tinged with the strong tang of dodginess from the original chief executive down to funking around with software code to evade the authorities, Uber is probably at the top of the list.

So, when companies come along to disrupt the disruptors and challenge the challengers, there's a good chance that balance can be restored to the force, or at least, in some measure.

One such company is Ola, an India-based ride-share company proudly boasting of being "one of the world’s largest ride-sharing platforms", which "is now officially operating in Perth".

Indeed, the company states it "has hired its first set of Australian employees in [Perth] to build local partnerships and support driver-partners".

We're told that, while the focus of the soft launch "was to onboard drivers and test out its services, Ola will officially engage potential riders from today through a wide variety of offers, and continue to recruit driver-partners".

And, one of its first promotions is that "all customers will receive 10 free rides for seven days".

The company says that "building trust amongst both customers and driver-partners is important to develop a viable ride-sharing marketplace that delivers a high quality transport experience", and that "since initiating trials a week ago, the service has received a strong response from driver-partners with over 4000 registrations".

It also notes that "while providing passengers a better way to move, Ola’s growth and expansion overseas has always been driven by a driver-partner focused approach to ride-sharing, including investing in its partners and supporting them with new technology, training and ways to increase earnings".

So, in the coming weeks, Ola said it "plans to roll out a number of new initiatives for driver partners including new earnings programmes, 24/7 support, community town halls, fuel offers and other vehicle services".

Chandra Nath, vice-president of International, Ola, said: “We are excited to officially start offering rides to customers in Perth. Since we began testing in the city last week, we’ve been really pleased with the response and feedback we’re receiving from customers, driver-partners and the community.”

If you're in Perth, you can now "download the Ola app from the Android or Apple App Store, register for an Ola account and begin booking rides".
