Samsung Galaxy Note 8 rumours to pause purchases of Galaxy S8?

With Apple chief Tim Cook having admitted rumours of the iPhone 8 paused purchases of the iPhone 7, could the same thing happen to the Galaxy S8?

Like clockwork each year, two major Samsung smartphone flagships are launched – the Galaxy S series and the Galaxy Note series.

Only those living under a rock in the far reaches of one of Jupiter’s icy moons would be unaware of the explosive Note7 scandal that scorched Samsung last year, something that has largely been rectified by the superbly solid Samsung S8.

However, with the launch of a Note 8 expected for later this year, we now come to what appears to be the very first leak of a Note 8 photo, courtesy of Slashleaks.

The Note 8 leak has also been written up by iTWire's Ray Shaw, in an article this morning dubbed “Samsung Galaxy Note 8 – a GS8+ S Pen – rumours abound”.

This leads to the extremely obvious question over whether those who have not yet jumped on the S8 and S8+ bandwagon, but who are Samsung and Note fans, as to whether or not this brand new purported photographic leak of a Note 8 might just pause S8 purchases by some punters.

After all, rumours of the iPhone 8 seem to have paused some iPhone 7 purchases, according to Cook, quoted in BGR answering a question from UBS analyst Steve Milunovich “about a recent 451 research survey which found that iPhone purchase intent is at a nine-year low”.

Cook is quoted stating: “I only glanced at it and so I haven’t had time to study it. But in general, we’re seeing what we believe to be a pause in purchases on iPhone, which we believe are due to the earlier and much more frequent reports about future iPhones.

“And so that part is clearly going on, and it could be what’s behind the data. I don’t know, but we are seeing that in full transparency.”

It may well be that once punters see this Note 8 leak, they might just decide to hang onto their existing phones a bit longer before upgrading to the world’s most advanced stylus-equipped Android handset.

We’ll just have to wait and see what sales stats will reveal, but if what is good for the goose is also good for the gander, the latest news of the Note 8 might not be so great for sales of the S8.
