Competition regulators world-wide are grappling with the rise of dominant digital platforms like Facebook and Google, and are debating whether current competition laws need to be reframed in response, the chair of Australia’s competition regulator, the ACCC, Rod Sims, has said.
The Australian arm of global software applications, digital solutions and managed services vendor Civica has acquired Australian SaaS and mobile software firm Asset Edge.
Australia’s competition watchdog, the ACCC, says lower prices and growing data services have been the key consumer benefits in the period 2017–18, with mobile phone services dropping by 8.3% in real terms, and fixed broadband prices falling by 1.5%.
