Australia’s peak advocacy group for communications consumers, the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network, has raised concerns that consumers currently do not have guarantees in relation to connection, reliability and repair timeframes for broadband with services through their retail service provider and the National Broadband Network (NBN).

Vodafone Hutchison Australia has boosted its customer base to 5.81 million to the end of last December, adding 246,000 customers over 12 months in 2017.

NBN Co, the company rolling out Australia's national broadband network, has reported a record loss for both a quarter and a half-year,  with the company losing $1.13 billion for the three months October to December 2017 and running up a $2.4 billion loss for the first six months of financial year 2018.
