Most NBN users experience less than one outage of 30 seconds or more a day, but Optus customers on average had to suffer through more than 1.5 outages each day, according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's fifth report on NBN speeds.
Fixed-line NBN customers are benefitting from competition among Internet service providers to perform well in the ACCC's speed tests, though some consumers continue to get much lower speeds than others on the same plan.
The communications and telecommunications sector, including major telcos like Telstra, was under the glare of the spotlight of the competition watchdog, the ACCC, in the 2017-2018 financial year, when it secured nearly $170 million in penalties for breaches of competition and consumer laws.
