People are taking to Twitter to complain of an outage with all three of Facebook's major properties – Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Messenger also seems to be affected.
Secure messaging applications that offer end-to-end encryption — like Telegram, WhatsApp and Signal — can leak users' confidential information through session hijacking because they depend on the operating system they are running on to protect application state and user information.
A US Government bid to force Facebook to break the encryption on its Messenger client and obtain voice data that is claimed to be needed in a crime investigation has failed, with a US District Court in California ruling against the move.
