Melbourne's Monash University has implemented a storage solution from the open source company Red Hat to store and manage five petabytes of research data.
The traditional desktop — replete with keyboard and mouse — is on the way out, according to Dell, which says a new workspace — dubbed Canvas — is the way to go. It used the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show to debut a new 27” horizontal workspace concept and a host of refinements on two-in-one hybrids, notebooks, all-in-one desktops, VR-ready mobile workstations, and 32” 8K monitors.
The PC — desktop, notebook, all-in-one — market has been declining for years, cannibalised by the uptake of the smartphone as a primary computing and Internet access device. But it is not all bad news for some makers who have seen growth in the hybrid form-factor segment.
