Australians are increasingly raising issues about faulty products and services with the national consumer watchdog, the ACCC, with the regulator receiving nearly 34,000 contacts about consumer guarantee related issues in 2018 – an increase of more than 17% compared to 2017.

The competition watchdog, the ACCC, has initiated court action against Internet provider Activ8me for allegedly making false or misleading representations over advertising of its broadband services.

ACCC chair Rod Sims is advocating for changes to business-to-business “unfair” contract terms in standard form contracts, saying there is a strong case to both strengthen the law and introduce penalties for breaking it.
