The ACCC has approved Telstra’s proposed variation to the NBN migration plan for special services which set out the steps Australia’s biggest telco will take to progressively migrate voice and broadband services from its copper and HFC networks to the broadband network as it is rolled out.

The communications and telecommunications sector, including major telcos like Telstra, was under the glare of the spotlight of the competition watchdog, the ACCC, in the 2017-2018 financial year, when it secured nearly $170 million in penalties for breaches of competition and consumer laws.

ACCC chair Rod Sims says the competition regulator is well placed to take enforcement action on data issues, but has warned of the possibility of a reduction in competition in some instances in “fast moving” digital markets.
