British telco BT and Chinese telecommunications equipment maker Huawei say the UK firm is removing equipment made by the Chinese company from the core of its 3G and 4G networks as it planned to do after it acquired the company EE in 2016.

Intelligence agencies in Australia have insisted that 5G core and radio access networks cannot be clearly separated, even though recent technical demonstrations have shown this not to be the case. This alleged lack of separation was advanced as the reason for banning Chinese companies from playing a role in rolling out Australia's 5G networks.
