More than five years after the Debian GNU/Linux project voted to make systemd the default init system for its distribution, it has now decided, again by a vote, to also care about alternatives to the default init system.
The systemd project is yet to release a fix for a bug that was disclosed on 28 September but at least one GNU/Linux distribution has patched the same.
A change in the most recent version of systemd, the init system that has been recently adopted by many GNU/Linux distributions, has users up in arms.
In what appears to be a relentless march to absorb more and more of a Linux/UNIX system, systemd, touted as an init system, has now incorporated the su command.
Linux creator Linus Torvalds has indicated that he has no interest in the problems faced by chief systemd developer Lennart Poettering that led to the latter blaming Torvalds for the negative feedback he (Poettering) has faced.
