Electricity, gas and Internet provider Sumo Power is facing court action by Australia’s competition watchdog the ACCC over allegations it made false or misleading representations to Victorian consumers in relation to its electricity plans.
Internet provider MyRepublic has been penalised by New Zealand’s competition authority The Commerce Commission for breaching its statutory obligations under the Telecommunications Development Levy.
Australians are losing more money to NBN scams, with an average of more than $110,000 being lost each month between January and May this year, compared with about $38,500 in monthly average losses throughout 2018, an increase of nearly 300%.
New Zealand’s competition regulator, The Commerce Commission, has issued Internet provider MyRepublic with a formal warning after it failed to meet its statutory obligations to provide information needed by the Commission to allocate the Telecommunications Development Levy.
With my 4G smartphone able to offer vastly faster upload and download speeds than all NBN connections in existence today, and while the NBN says it does offer gigabit connections, when NBN Co wants you to ask "how much speed do you need?", it doesn't expect gigabit will be your answer.
