New Wi-Fi protocol WPA3 to increase security

Wi-Fi Alliance to absorb WiGig Alliance

The Wi-Fi Alliance - the industry body that oversees standardisation and product certification for Wi-Fi products - is to absorb the WiGig Alliance, a body formed in 2009 to fulfil a similar role for new wireless LAN technologies designed to provide throughput of several gigabits per second.

The ability of mobile operators to offload broadband traffic onto Wi-Fi networks has been greatly enhanced with the Wi-Fi Alliance now testing and certifying mobile devices and access points for conformance to its Wi-Fi Certified Passpoint program, and a number of operators committing to trials of the technology.
