H2 Cable to link Australia and China

H2 Cable and SubCom have signed a contract for the supply and installation of the H2 submarine cable system that will be the first to connect Australia and Hong Kong, with direct access to China.

Vocus increases debt facility to $1.27b

The Vocus Group has opened a new line of debt to the tune of A$1.27 billion and NZ$150 million, with the same interest cover and gearing ratios but with a new net leverage ratio to provide what it calls "financial headroom and flexibility".

Japan's NEC Corporation and the Southeast Asia-Japan 2 consortium (SJC2) have signed an agreement for the former to build a high-performance submarine cable connecting Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, mainland China, Korea and Japan.

Southern Cross Cables has announced multiple deals for use of its Next subsea cable, including a major capacity commitment by FINTEL, Fiji’s International Gateway provider and wholesale telecommunications company.

At the PTC conference today in Hawaii, Telstra announced that it "entered into agreements to invest in two new international subsea cable systems that will connect Hong Kong and the west coast of the United States".

Basslink chief executive Malcolm Eccles has dismissed Hydro Tasmania's claim that it had found the reason behind the Basslink cable failure in 2015, saying that the expert reports cited as proof merely outlined one possible cause of the outage.
