IT graduates harder to find says CSC boss

As the demand for IT graduates starts to climb and enrolments into IT courses continues to drop, one of Australia's largest employers of IT people is finding it tougher to stay too picky. According to Mike Shove, CEO of IT services provider CSC Australia, the company now takes on 40% more graduates than it did two years ago but gets just over half the number of applicants.

The chief technology officer of Federal Government funded ICT research organization NICTA has sounded the alarm bells about the lack of Australian students  pursuing IT degrees. However, despite the shortage of IT graduates, Google Australia & New Zealand says it is getting plenty of applicants for jobs but wants more.

A supply crunch of ICT professionals will hit the Australian market in the final quarter of 2007, resulting in an explosion of demand for contractors. This is the prediction of John McVicker, managing director of recruiter Best International, which publishes the monthly IT Talent Index report.
