More than 2000 New Zealanders have signed a petition urging their government to offer WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange permanent political asylum in the country and also safe passage to the country from his present place of residence – the Ecuadorian embassy in London.
WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange is in extremely poor health and unless he is released from the Ecuadorian embassy in London, his condition may deteriorate to the point where his life is threatened.
Ecuador President Lenin Moreno has said he has no objection to the UK agreeing to extradite WikiLeaks' publisher Julian Assange to the US, if there is an understanding that he will not face the death penalty for his publishing of leaked US military secrets.
