Looking a bit like a very upgraded Blaze, Fitbit’s previous “almost” smartwatch, the Ionic promises “multi-day battery life”, apps, workouts, personalised guidance, contactless payments, music and plenty more.
Although Jawbone made fitness trackers as well as Bluetooth speakers, that part of Jawbone’s business has reportedly been liquidated, with a new focus on healthcare instead.
Smartwatches, particularly those with good health and fitness underpinnings, are still a niche, but growing market. Samsung may well have made its new Gear S3 the best, certainly the most comprehensive, smartwatch with fitness benefits so far.
