U.S. announces space station concept 25 years ago

Twenty-five years ago, on January 25, 1984, President Ronald Reagan announced in his State of the Union Address the plan of the United States to build a permanently manned space station "within the decade."

Mars webcam goes dark

Mars has moved behind the Sun (from an Earthbound perspective), so the webcam aboard the Mars Express space probe has been shut down until the northern spring.

Officials with the European Space Agency (ESA) agreed to spend euro 10 billion (US$12.8 billion) for a series of thirty space missions, including a robotic Martian rover, experiments onboard the International Space Station, and a network of climate satellites.
