I had the opportunity to visit Citrix’s Executive briefing Centre in Macquarie Park, Sydney. It is an impressive facility showcasing Citrix’s GoToMeeting, its desktop virtualisation ‘Xen App and Xen Desktop’ and much more.

Nvidia's Grid virtualisable GPUs can now be used with virtualised desktops under VMware Horizon and vSphere.

Chromebooks and Citrix here to stay

Virtualisation vendor Citrix is confident of an ongoing role in delivering virtualised applications and desktops to mobile devices, especially Chromebooks.

Following a successful pilot and scalability test, the Department of Defence will shortly start deploying virtual desktops to 100,000 users throughout the organisation.

The University of Adelaide has embarked on a project to deliver 20,000 virtual desktop systems to staff and students using Citrix XenDesktop, XenServer and NetScaler.

Dell has added a new desktop virtualisation appliance to its Australian catalogue, along with a new zero client.

A survey of CIOs and IT managers has found that virtualisation and cloud are top priorities for the coming year.
