What’s around the corner for autonomous cars?

Researchers at Western Australia’s Curtin University working with Mercedes Benz say they have created technology that will make an autonomous car commercially viable and affordable to the average-income person, within the next 10-years.

Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced that Daimler AG has extended its commitment to Siemens PLM Software and its products for total of 10 years and has pledged to an extensive rollout for the replacement of its current computer-aided design (CAD) environment with NXâ„¢ software, one of the world's leading solutions for digital product development. Daimler's NX deployment for passenger cars will be complete by the end of 2015 and for trucks by the end of 2016 - the most rapid implementation/switch possible.

Daimler AG has selected CAD Software from Siemens as their standard for their worldwide vehicle development. Starting in the summer of 2012, Daimler will integrate work from over 20 development centers and their most important suppliers on a single product development platform. Both companies have agreed not to disclose the contract value.
