Alcatel-Lucent hits 10 Gbps over copper

Bell Labs, the research arm of Alcatel-Lucent, says it has set a new broadband speed record of 10 Gbps using traditional copper telephone lines.

40th anniversary of first cellular phone call

Cellular mobile telephony is 40 years old. Martin Cooper, general manager of Motorola's Communications Systems Division made the first cellular call, to his rival at AT&T's Bell Labs, from the streets of New York City on April 3 1973.
