Even before one starts casting a critical eye over the OPPO A54 5G, there is one feature that is sure to grab the attention, especially in these times: it costs just $399 and easily qualifies as Australia's cheapest 5G smartphone at the moment.

Last year, OPPO released three 5G smartphones in its flagship Find X line. This year, the company has done likewise, seeking, one guesses, to again cater to all segments of the Australian populace which want to invest in devices that incorporate the new technology.

Chinese smartphone maker vivo has taken the top spot in its home market for the first, beating its own stablemate, OPPO, the technology analyst firm Counterpoint Research says.

The vivo Y70 was the last of the Android phones on my list for review last year, but unfortunately the test device reached me just before the holidays, due to logistical issues. Hence, this review has been delayed a fair bit.

There's very little to differentiate OPPO's A53s smartphone from its half-brother, the A53, which was reviewed last week. Indeed, they look to be twins under the skin.

The OPPO A53 is another one of those nicely built 4G smartphones to emerge from the belly of B.B.K. Electronics, with plenty of premium features but a price that will not break the bank.

Like many of its cousins from its parent company, electronics giant B.B.K. Electronics, the vivo Y20S is a solidly constructed device, one of many 4G smartphones hitting the Australian market as companies realise that 5G smartphones are really not needed here given the current state of the 5G rollout.

Chinese smartphone vendor vivo has launched another two smartphones in Australia, with the Y20s and Y70 smartphone being part of its next gen Y Series.

The realme 6 is another sub-500 device from the Middle Kingdom, this time from a subsidiary of BBK Electronics, and aimed at the gamer who looks for something that costs below $500.

The OPPO A91 is a good choice for the budget-minded, impatient user, offering as it does much superior hardware specs than cheaper models from the same manufacturer, while at the same time not calling for overspend.

Mass iPhone production in China, which normally occurs just before Apple announces its line-up of devices to be released in September, will be delayed by about a month, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar with the company's plans.
